Waikato Petfoods will purchase cows for Petfood if they meet any of these MPI requirements below:
- Unwanted healthy cows
- Cows within withholding periods from antibiotics and dry cow
- Mastitis (Not black or gangrenous mastitis)
- Injuries such as breaks and dislocations
- If Calving paralysis persists within 4 days of calving
- Arthritis
- Eczema
- Johne’s Disease
- Down Cows
- Milk Fever or Grass stagger conditions require a statement from your Vet stating that your cow is fit for Petfood.
Can I transport my cow/s to Waikato Petfoods site?

Your cow is not fit for Petfood when…
- The cow is already deceased
- Your cow has black or gangrenous mastitis
- Blood Poisoning
- Tuberculosis (TB)
- Salmonella, Listeria, Ketosis or Acidosis
- Systemic Illness

- What will I need to provide Waikato Petfoods on arrival?If you are requiring a collection for;
- Cows, bulls, sheep, goats or horses you will need to provide a ‘Animal Status Declaration’ (ASD) form each time. You can download your ASD form here and have it ready on collection or simply ask our friendly drivers on arrival
- For Bobby calves this season simply fill in the ‘2019 Calf Declaration’ form just once for the whole season. Either return it to our friendly driver upon collection or email it to [email protected]
- Cows, bulls, sheep, goats or horses you will need to provide a ‘Animal Status Declaration’ (ASD) form each time. You can download your ASD form here and have it ready on collection or simply ask our friendly drivers on arrival
- How old do my calves have to be for on-farm slaughter services?There is no requirement for this.
- Can I transport live calves to Waikato Petfoods?Yes you can, however calves must be a minimum of 4 days old.
